Tommy’s Cuisine for dinner? we vote YES

IMG_4545We went to Tommy’s cuisine last week for dinner and it was delicious. I had a salad and stuffed eggplant. Doug had the sweetbreads, oysters and pork chop for dinner. It was really good! We sat with John, Jennie and Ashley. It was a great night with great company!

Sabrina’s Pig Roast!

One of my bridesmaid’s, Sabrina, lives in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. We met while at LSU and she loves our LSU Tigers. A month or two ago she decided to fly in for the LSU v. Alabama game. She flew 15 hours from Abu Dhabi to Chicago and then Chicago to Nola. She arrived Friday night at 10 pm, stayed up until 2 am, got up Saturday at 6 am (with her brother, Robert) and drove to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to watch the game.

If you live anywhere near Louisiana you know the Tigers won (making her trip worth the money and flights) and she got to see it in person! She and Robert drove home Sunday, rested for a bit and then headed over to a BBQ thrown in her honor.

Her main request was to have PIG. She has not had pig in months…at least not really. She can find bacon, but it is super expensive so Doug smoked a pork shoulder and Donnie made ribs. We all ate like kings (and queens). We had potato salad (from Brandon which had BACON in it..yummm), famous macaroni and cheese (Sabrina’s recipe with Sarah’s twist), Shelby’s (grandmother’s recipe for) red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing, Amber’s cookie cake, and Ashley’s gluten free chocolate chip cookies.

Ashley was a wonderful hostess!!

I also had a crazy idea to have a fire pit so we could make smores! Of course, Donnie pulled a fire pit out of his ass/workshop and produced a fire pit in 20 minutes. That guy has access to everything!

Then Sabrina gave picked names from a hat to give away some Abu Dhabi door prizes!

Here is everyone who won a door prize! (creepy doug…creepy…)IMG_4582IMG_4585IMG_4587IMG_4588IMG_4589IMG_4591IMG_4592

Sabrina hung in there like a trooper even though this is what she felt like doing:

Even flat Andrew made an appearance:

It is wonderful having her in town. We miss her very much when she is away. :)

#1 vs. #2 (spoiler alert–it ends in our favor…)

So there was this LSU game this past weekend that most people had no idea was happening. It was a little, tiny, very small amount of hype involved kind of football game.

I decided to watch the game at a dear friend’s house. He is known for his awesome football parties and intense style of watching/yelling at the game. I arrived at Scott’s house around 6 pm to find a sizeable group ready to stop watching game day and to start watching the actual game.

I did a terrible job taking pictures as the game was so freaking intense. I had a wonderful time hanging out with Ryan and his new wife, Cat, but did not take one freaking picture them. Lame-o.

Once the game was over and LSU had won in overtime the party was moved to the Balcony Bar. I hung with Scott and Stephan until Scott passed out (as he had been drinking since 9 am). THEN I decided to break out my camera and take the only 2 pictures I took all night. Here they are for your viewing pleasure:

IMG_4566IMG_4565

It was a fun/intense game. I mainly have my voice back today. :)

I got home that night and hung out with Doug and Ashley for a bit. Ashley had watched the game at home as she was not feeling well and Doug had skipped the game to do homework for his Stanford course.

Geaux Tigahs! What an intense game.

Update from All Saint’s/All Souls Day

This past Tuesday I decided to see if I could get into St. Louis #2 cemetery and find my family tomb(s).

To my surprise, we have THREE tombs in the cemetery. We have one in each square of the cemetery.

St. Louis #2 is made up of 3 squares blocks. They call each block 1, 2, and 3.

In Square 1:

st. louis no 2, square 1

We have a tall white tomb down the center of the row. The name on the tomb says Peyroux, but the two people buried inside do not have the family name. I have no idea who they are. Family, any idea?

In Square 2:

It took me quite a while to find it, but I found the tomb of Alfred Silvain Peyroux. He was born in 1829 and died in 1858 at the age of 29. (I suspect that is what the marker says.) Even though his is the only name on the tomb, I suspect there to be about 3-4 other family members in this tomb also. I have records that show his parents and other family members are buried here as well.

I did clean off the little weeds you see on the marker to honor the dead. There really was not much to clean at this site. It looked to be in great condition.

In Square 3:

st. lous no 2, block 3

After finding the tombs in Square 1 and 2, I was hoping to find a big tomb in Square 3 and to find all the names of the people I know to be buried in this cemetery. After 30 minutes of hunting, I found the spot where the tomb used to stand.

I was very disappointed! I was informed by the SAVE OUR CEMETERY volunteers that when the tomb is in such disrepair, they remove the bricks and mortar and bury the remains in the ground where the tomb once stood. So the good news is that we still have my family remains, but no tall, awesome tomb.

You will notice on the photo below the brick foundation. The volunteers also told me they leave the foundation to mark where the remains are buried.

I am glad I went to celebrate all Saint’s Day at the cemetery. There were quite a few people there cleaning graves and painting fences around their family tombs.

I am also considering talking to my family about having our tomb rebuilt in square 3 OR selling it for some mad cash. Evidently the land in St. Louis #2 is prime real estate. I can understand why. I would not mind my ashes resting that close to the heart of New Orleans for eternity.

Also for those who wondered…there were police stationed at the entrance to the cemetery. I am very glad I went. I just might make it a tradition.

Also, I will be donating to saveourcemeteries.org and you should too :) They were so helpful and nice. Let’s save our Cemeteries NOLA!

Making 1953 round and circular…

You might have heard a bit about Doug making his wedding band from a silver half dollar, but I will show you him actually doing it.

Doug asked my mom for 2 silver half dollars from the year she and his mother were born, 1953. They were actually born 2 days apart in December!

IMG_4462Doug started hammering the coin down and it was LOUD. I could hear it through the wall and outside very well. IMG_4465IMG_4469IMG_4471IMG_4481He is almost done with the first ring and will start working on the second one in a few months. Pretty cool!

Dude of Honor–Shawn

A few weeks ago Doug asked his best friend, Shawn, to be his main dude for the wedding. He accepted the grand duty and will stand next to my future husband on the alter. We did not get an actual picture of the proposal to Shawn, but Shawn did bring the mask to volleyball one night to take a photo.

I told him to look excited for the picture and he told him this is as excited as he gets… :)

This completes our wedding party asking! I still have to post 3 of the bridesmaids. You will just have to wait for that. :)

All Saints Day

Wikipedia told me:
Catholics celebrate All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day in the fundamental belief that there is a prayerful spiritual communion between those in the state of grace who have died and are either being purified in purgatory or are in heaven…”

I remember being told that All Saint’s Day was the day to visit the gravesites of loved ones. I also remember being told that police are available for escorts to gravesites that are not in safe neighborhoods. I have never tested this theory, but I just might have to as I have relatives buried in St. Louis Cemetery No 2.

Map picture

Here is a closer view. I am still trying to figure out which one is the family plot.

Ignore all the red and green lines on the photo below. My family’s plot is in the second column from the left, about halfway down. Look for #11 – it says PEYROUX. I also just figured out we have multiple tombs in this cemetery.

st. louis 2 family plot

After digging further I found the following:
Charles Peyroux (1738-1794) is buried in St. Louis No 2, Lot 11 Alley 3.
His wife, Marie Susan Caue, (1755-1838) is also buried in the same tomb. They had nine children and 3 of them were married in St. Louis Cathedral in the late 1700’s and early 1800’s.

Their youngest son, JMG Silvain Peyroux (1792-1859) married Rose Algae Cantrelle (1806 –1840) lived in a plantation home called 3 Oaks next to the Domino Sugar Factory in St. Bernard and are both buried in St. Louis No 2, Alley 3. They had six children and those children are mostly buried in St. Louis No 2.

I have also photographed our family tomb in the Metairie Cemetery. My grandfather, Bob, and his parents are buried there.
