A gift of worms :)

My sweet and wonderful father gave me a thoughtful and generous gift:

A HUGE CUP OF WORMS! Needless to say, I was very excited. As soon as I got home I opened the cup and checked out my new compost eating friends.

To my surprise, I found an worm egg right on top.

If you look closely, you can see a little orange colored dot in the top left quadrant of the photo. It is a little bigger than a sesame seed. These egg packets hold 3-7 little baby worms.

I introduced my new worms to my old friends and they all seem to get along. Here is my worm compost bin with my new worms:

It is really not much to look at, but I am super pumped. I put all my food scraps in here. It lives next to my garbage can and does not smell (except that one time I put a bunch of bad broccoli in it. It smelled broccoli-ish for one day.)

I am not sure how many worms I have now. I started with 50. Dad gave me at least 50 and they have been reproducing over the past 4 months. The worm bin directions say my bins can hold up to 10,000 worms. I have plenty of room to grow. :)

Thank you Dad! My worms are awesome and say hello!

On my drive home from getting my gift of worms, I was reading up on some worm facts. I learned that worms mate for 3-4 hours. See, you learned something new!

Love and hugs, Lizzie
