Mardi Gras 2016 (January and February)

It is safe to say that Mardi Gras is  my favorite holiday of the year. Christmas and St. Patty’s is close, but Mardi Gras is #1. I had resigned myself to the fact that I would not be attending Mardi Gras this year. Well, not in person. I had decided to make the most of it. I would watch all the parades I could (via Live camera) and make it the best I could.

At first I told Doug he could not do Mardi Gras without me! Then, I totally changed my tune and told him to go. Just because I could not Mardi Gras (yes, I just made that a verb), that did not mean he should not enjoy it also.

Right before Mardi Gras, doug brought me a gift! Check out my shirt!

I guess it should technically have two cakes on it, but oh well. At least it had one cake Smile. Also, we had so much king cake in the hospital room.  Doug brought me one each week from a local bakery with the new flavor of the week. Maybe that is where I got this tummy…. or not. Each night a parade would ride Uptown, I would pull up my computer and watch the parade live. I must admit the commentators were pretty terrible, but at least I got to see and hear Mardi Gras.

One of the things I was most looking forward to was seeing the Sirens dance. I thought I might be sad, but I was not. I was just excited. Next year its on! I will be dancing come hell or high water! Smile

When I would see the truck, I would get so excited and dance along.

I got to see lots of friends marching and dancing. It was as awesome as I could make it. It was also a great distraction from the burning, heart racing injections.

On the day of the Muses parade, I had a few visitors. Courtney and Mamma Gay stopped by to visit me. Little did I know they had a surprise in store for me. They sat and visited with me for a while. All seemed normal. Then a came a knock at the door (totally normal for a hospital). Heather (my favorite makeup and hair designer) walked in. I was shocked! I had not booked her to come in that day. She came in with a note…

It was a note from Jackie J and Pat. They were surprising me with a hair and makeup application to help make me feel pretty! Boy was a surprised! It was so unexpected and sweet of them. I really have some amazing friends.

There may have been some wig fun occurring while I had my makeup and hair done…

That night I put on my king cake t-shirt, specially delivered Muses bracelet and watched Muses.

I had sent Doug out to the parade to catch me some shoes. He brought in the loot the next day Smile
Ironically, this was the first day I did not see doug since I was hospitalized. He felt bad, but I told him to get to the parades! ha. Priorities!

Love and Hugs, Lizzie
